Tuesday 30 June 1992. Steak and Kidney Pie. “Really Yummy”. Trenna developed a recipe for this, and another, very similar, for Steak and Mushroom Pie. Both were favourites with us and I am sure they are going to appear all through the years of these menu diaries (I last made it about a month ago). Eventually I will publish the recipes for those two.

Friday 11 July. Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni. Tren comments that at last she has got it right. Trenna was pretty analytical, and at times critical of the meals we had. She had obviously tried it a few times before and adjusted the menu each time to get it just right.

Sunday 5 July. We are still on the take away Whoppers. This time after Eggs’ Sunday session.

Thursday 9 July. Looks like we saw Eggs again. I’m not sure why. Anyway the meal was only average. I had to (just now) Google “Duchess Potato“. I think that was probably the first and last time we had them.

Fri 17/7 Beef & Egg Kofta Curry, Dahl, Lamb & Potato Curry, Vegie Curry, Rice, Papadoms

Friday 10 July. After eating the leftovers from the previous night it looks like we went to our friends Bart and Marie’s house and ate some of there food. Bart’s Birthday was that week so I presume that was the reason we went. In those days we would use any excuse to take some drinks over to a mate’s place. Mmm. Maybe that still applies – just a bit less often – and maybe we have coffee and tea a bit more.

Tuesday 14 July. My parents were over for dinner. Again, I don’t recall a reason. Probably Trenna just putting the new kitchen through it’s paces.

Tuesday 16 July. The Duchess Room (named after the ferry that took people between the city and the Perth Zoo, which is nearby) at the Windsor Hotel. I think that restaurant is still in that pub, but it’s now called the Charthouse Restaurant. We went many times over the years/decades.

Friday 17 July – Sunday 19 July. Look at how much food Trenna prepared, just for the two of us! I’m very glad we got three meals out of that. And, it was all done from scratch. She would have soaked the lentils to make the dahl, she never used curry pastes, she ground the spices and prepared the meals from the raw ingredients. Looking at the menu diary I would say she probably had started the day before, and that is why we ate out the previous night.

Trenna, and later Trenna and I, prepared quite elaborate meals many times over the years. One thing I also notice is that she had entertained a few times already in that month, and then prepared this. Trenna’s energy levels obviously weren’t effected too much by her health conditions at that stage.

Trenna returning from snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. This was on 10 October 1991. She was very physically active in those years.

Thursday 23 July. Tren’s delicious Puttanesca again. I see she describes it as “manufeek”! I think she was trying to say it was “magnifique”. I’m pretty sure she has written it like that as a bit of a joke, though she may not have known how to spell it correctly. For those who don’t know, in future years Trenna studied French at university, and she received very good marks.
