Yummy Stuff
Wednesday 4 August. We had our friend Ken (Eggs) over for dinner and had satays, which we would have made from scratch along with the Sambal Badjak – a chilli sambal.
Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 August. “Bellissimo!” was the Neapolitana Sauce Trenna made to have with pasta. It is a good recipe. The next day I had leftovers as it looks like Trenna went to lunch with Helen to celebrate Helen’s 36th Birthday. They went to Mamak Malaysia in the city, which was owned and run by Helen’s then husband, David.
No Conference Dinners for Trenna
Friday 13 August. I was quite heavily involved in AITEA (now ATEM) which is the professional body for university administrators. We were having a State conference at the Atrium Resort in the nearby coastal town of Mandurah.
As is often the case with such events there was a conference dinner with plenty of wine to help with the networking. I of course invited Trenna to accompany me to dinner but she refused. At the last conference dinner she was seated next to my boss, and she told me later that it was the most tedious and boring meal she had ever had!
At this conference she opted for a Room Service Dinner. But her comment on the menu diary says “I’d rather forget this”.
Trenna was very supportive of my career and we travelled all over Australia to conferences, and also to conferences in Wellington in New Zealand, and to Prague. But I’m pretty sure she never went to any of the conference dinners after that earlier experience.
In later years I felt I didn’t need to go to the dinners either so that worked well.
Another Session
Sunday 15 August. It was our “Sunday Session” but I see we had “bought food”. This, I’m sure is because we had been away to the AITEA Conference and hadn’t had time to prepare home made session food.
Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August. Another Indian feast. Gee, they were good – and I miss them. This one was “to die for” and it would have been! I don’t think Trenna would have made the Sweet Mango Chutney. It was most likely from a jar and was either Pakak’s or Sharwood’s.
Monday 23, Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 August. Two nights of my pork roast that Tren liked so much, and there was enough left over to make into fried rice on the third day. Interestingly we had garlic bread with the fried rice. Not something I would have thought of but they went together well.
Friday 27 and Saturday 28 August. More rave reviews for Tri Vegeroni Spiralli pasta and Siciliana Sauce.
The recipe for Siciliana Pasta Sauce is HERE.
Sunday 29 August. We rounded off the month with another Sunday Session. This one at Lyle and Milka’s house.
