Menu Diary No. 7

September 1992

For an introduction to what these Menu Diary posts are about, please click here.

Tuesday 25 August. Trenna made moussaka again, which I’m sure I enjoyed – it would have taken her ages.

Thursday 27 August, chilli spaghetti is a really easy and fast meal. As it was a Thursday we probably did the grocery shopping first (the only night supermarkets were open late) and then I would have cooked it after we got home. I’ll include the recipe from her iPad, below.

Monday 31 August. Wiener schnitzel, herbed spud salad, broccoli, carrots. Trenna only planned Weiner schnitzel if she could get good quality veal.

Thursday 3 September. I don’t recall my pork noodles but I think the comment referred to Trenna’s constant desire NOT to use stock cubes. It was probably a recipe I had and she convinced me to loose the cube.

Tuesday 8 & Wednesday 9 September. I’m a bit intrigued to know what was involved in the “diced salad” as it made the chilli con carne “Devine”.

Friday 11 September. We went out for breakfast to celebrate Trenna’s 35th birthday (I don’t remember it but in those days most breakfasts were buffet meals. In later years it got too hard for Trenna to get up and out of the house early.) The meal on the menu sheet was the evening meal.

Wednesday 16 September. I think that was the last time Trenna had marinara.

Thursday 17 September. Grocery shopping night so we got take away. I still remember the aloo bondas we got that night. That is what her “what a find” comment is about. I don’t think Trenna had a recipe for them but there are some on the internet (now that I know how to spell it) so I am definitely making some in the coming week.

Monday 21 September. I had to look up “Robert sauce” or “sauce Robert” so we probably never made it again.

Sunday 27 September. It was our turn to host the Sunday session for our friends. Trenna made zucchini patties and chicken liver pate, which apparently was the hit of the night.

Below is Trenna’s recipe for Chilli and Extra Virgin Olive Oil Pasta Sauce, taken from her iPad, which contains all our most used recipes. We pretty well always had parsley, spring onions and birdseye chillis growing in the garden and the other ingredients in the pantry so this was one we could whip up at short notice if we needed to – but with Trenna’s planning, of course, we didn’t need to!!
