Soundwave Festival 2013

4 March 2013

By Trenna, with an intro from Greg

Introduction

I had always planned on including this story from Trenna’s iPad. As I read it I can tell that she has done a bit of a download of her brain to get it down in print whilst still fresh in her memory.

I feel sure that she hoped to come back to it in future and elaborate on some of the comments. She either never got around to it, or she might have felt the energy that comes across in the original (see the PDF from her iPad at the bottom of the page) reflected the frenetic nature of this sensational music festival.

At one stage I was going to rewrite this to fill in the gaps, but I think I like it as it is.

The only editing I have done is to break it into smaller paragraphs.

Emerse yourself in a frantic 6 and a half hours.

In Trenna’s Words

Monday, 6 1/2 hours at Soundwave with Lyle & Milks & 40,000 others lived up to all our expectations. We got fab shady possy in fenced off area of Stage 1.

“Lyle, Milka & me reunited STAGE 1a”

Kicked off with Slayer, then A Perfect Circle, Blink 182, it got a tad scary when the exclusion barriers were pushed down & there was some serious malevolent biffo between insurgents & security & anyone, like us, in the way.

Greg got pushed over, I got punched in the chest, the crowd was manic -“Quelle surprise” !

Thankfully security gave in & let everyone in & we all went back to grooving along. Then Linkin Park – so damn fine.

Eventually, I HAD to go to a loo. I am SO going to find me some of those astronaut pants, cause I never ever want to go back into a porta-loo without lights, everything was WET, knew not to expect a good experience but Greg HAD to come save me!

So-o-o buggered, but alive

Sampled a bit of unknown band Sleeping With Sirens on Stage 3 enroute to Stage 2.

We stopped to eat bad burgers, but found CHAIRS! Greg went back to see some Metallica while I rested & listened to Shirley Manson & Garbage.

Greg back in time for The Offspring – mega, awesome, so good, absolutely the band whom everyone knew every word to every song, crazy dancing, people on roofs, just b4 they ended back to Metallica, loud, frenzied, explosive.

Rock music fans all over the place
“The crazy mob on rusted roof for best view STAGE 2a”. Watching and singing with The Offspring. Sorry the photo is a bit blurry, but you get the idea. 4 March 2013

So-o-o buggered, but alive.

We jagged the trains, but were mildly indignant when offered the seniors seats on both trains!

Home b4 11pm still pumped so wine & whiskey & fell asleep on sofa.

Trenna’s Diary for That Day

GM: As an after thought I thought I’d look in Trenna’s 2013 Diary for 4 March. This is what it says….

11am-10pm SOUNDWAVE (Claremont Showgrounds), $408.35 for 2.
We drove to Slippery's, 3ish & caught the train at Bullcreek wth them.
Arrived Claremont & straight to Stage 1.
Slayer were on, Lyle went to get water, Greg waited. Milks & I passed through security to get into the fenced off area of Stage 1, found shade.
Texted G&L after about 1/2 hour, my text didn't send. They couldn't find us and went to Stage 2. Paramore, Sum 41, came back Lyle spotted my hat & thankfully they were back with water. Watched A Perfect Circle, Blink 182 (we were caught up in an insurgent biffo) then Linkin Park.
We left to go to gross loos. Stopped 4 bad burger.
Greg went back to Metallica while I sat on chair and I listening to Garbage, then up to The Offspring, home past Metallica.
Jagged trains, home by 10:45pm.

Such a great day!! I think that’s the time I forgot to bring ID and was sporting a nice ‘juvie cross’ all day… haha! Sober at Soundwave… très uncool…

It was great. I don’t think you were carrying anything at all that day. Trenna and I noticed as we had to carry pills, visual aids etc. Perhaps an ID might have been wise, though.
