Eulogy Part 2

A Celebration of Trenna’s Life  –  15 January 2021

Below is the the eulogy delivered by Trenna’s oldest sister, Nancy Seckington-Baker at the celebration of Trenna’s life.

Eulogy

Greg has shared his story of Tren’s story. He has stressed I have 5 minutes.

We have endless, wonderful stories of our sister Trenna.

A truly life WELL LIVED.

However those stories are for another time and place.

I am here to say how incredibly thankful and grateful that we  have had Tren with us in our life for 63 years.

(As Greg has told you Trenna was 2 years old when our mother passed away.)  Our mother was 37 years old. Her mother, our grandmother passed away when she was just 29 years old. Both with Marfan. Our mother was also 2 years old when she lost her mum.

As a family and friends we are so very thankful for modern technology, for specialist doctors and nurses.  With technology that wasn’t available for our mother or grandmother, Trenna was able to receive a replacement metal aortic valve.

I can tell it felt so good whenever I heard the tick, tick or her heart.

I would like to acknowledge the family of Mr and Mrs Anderson. Even with 4 children of their own they took Tren to their home during the May, August and the long summer school holidays.  During the summer holidays a time was spent at Meelup Beach. Our sister Barbara was also able to spend some of these summer holidays with Tren.

The continuity, stability and the security of one family for holidays during Tren’s formative years was so very important.  And, not spending every holiday with strangers, as I, we did.

We all understand teenage years can be a tough time for all. It is wonderful that Tren has caught up with Margaret and Gary in recent years.  I am hoping they are here today.

[3 of the 4 Anderson siblings were. Margaret, and her husband Gary were there, as were David and Ian.]

I realise Greg has thanked this wonderful lady but as a family I would also like to.

What a remarkable, caring relationship Tren had with her long standing GP – Cherry. To have a doctor who listens to you, to fully understand you. To be there with you through the highs and the lows.

I spent the day with Tren and Greg in October 2019. Tren asked if I would go with her and Greg for an appointment with Cherry.  The appointment was for 2pm in Canningvale. Tren was very apologetic when she came out at 3pm saying appointments with Cherry were always long.

In the car relaying information re the appointment Tren said she asked Cherry to tell her the truth re her time line. Cherry was very frank with Trenna.  That was the honesty and rapport that Tren and Cherry shared.  That was 2019. It shows once again the resilience and fight of Tren.

Sincere thanks to you Cherry for your love and care for Trenna.

Not long after Trenna and Greg started together the family first met Greg Mahney on March 1988 for my daughter Cathy’s 12th birthday.

Team Tren and Greg. How wonderful it is to meet your soul mate. We all know there is love – love we hear is “all around”.  But unconditional, devotional, true love is often hard to find.  Tren and Greg found each other and together they shared a wonderful partnership, friendship, marriage.  What a true blessing for both of them and for us.

So as we share stories and raise our glasses for Tren we know she was an amazing, spirited, irrepressible , loving, incredibly strong woman.  A true fighter to the end.

We loved you Tren from the day you were born and we will never stop loving you.
