The Kitchen Tapes No. 17

Recorded 5 June 2018

Some Better Days at Kent Street

GM:  OK, today is the 5th of June, 2018. I’m here with Trenna Mahney with her recollections.

Tren, last time we were talking about your high school days, after we turned off the recorder you mentioned several particular incidents.  Perhaps you’d like to go to a few of those.

THM:  Well, I think I spoke about the various classes I was in, and I couldn’t remember the names of … Read the rest ... “The Kitchen Tapes No. 17”

Monday 28 September. Roast Pork. I would have made this one. Mainly because Trenna would have real trouble lifting a hot pork roast safely, and secondly because in those days I always got the crackling perfectly crispy.

No. 16 in the Kitchen Tape Series

Recorded 1 June 2018, at our kitchen bench

Bullied at High School

GM:  OK. Today’s date is the 1st of June 2018.  We are with Trenna Mahney.

Tren,  you started to tell us about high school before, can you tell us a bit more about your high school time?

THM:  Well in the 70s I think there was a much less regimented approach to teaching.  I don’t recall having any outstanding teachers.

People knew that I came … Read the rest ... “No. 16 in the Kitchen Tape Series”

BABY ZARA HEIRLOOM BLANKET

By Greg, plus Trenna’s iPad document

2007

This story has it’s origin in 2007, or maybe earlier.

In the 2000s Trenna became part of a group of women from around the area – mainly in our street – who had formed a craft group. Trenna hadn’t been much of a craft person, but she was keen to be part of the community.

She had met most of the women before, but because of the group she developed a friendship with … Read the rest ... “BABY ZARA HEIRLOOM BLANKET”

“SCOLIOSIS BODY MIGRAINES”

Introduction by Greg and then Trenna’s words, with only a little editing

The inverted commas in the title were in the original document. A “Body Migraine” is a Trennaism. In this case the term she used to describe this set of symptoms.

Introduction

This is another post that I am including mainly for the benefit of those with musculoskeletal issues. That of course incudes those, like Trenna, with Marfan Syndrome.

Trenna’s words below were on her iPad. It looks like … Read the rest ... ““SCOLIOSIS BODY MIGRAINES” ”

Starting High School

GM:  OK, We’re here today with Trenna Mahney.  Today is Thursday, the 24th of May, 2018.

Tren, we’ve done a lot on your primary school, could you start now by telling us a bit about what you remember about High School?

THM:  High School was at the start of a new decade, it was 1970.  Everything in the world had changed in 1970.

I was going to Kent Street Senior High School, … Read the rest ... “The 15th Kitchen Tape”

Everyone is welcome to read the post, but it doesn’t contain any funny or poignant stories. I’m just trying to pass on some information Trenna accumulated in case it is of use to anyone else.

Maybe in the future it has historical benefit as well. Who knows!

The Art of Conversation

Wisdom From Trenna’s iPad

This is an item I noticed on Trenna’s iPad and thought I’d share. I knew it was there, and Trenna would remind me of it from time to time.

She was extremely supportive of my career and encouraged me in it. As a result I was involved in a number of professional organisations, and held some senior positions.

She was also supportive of me going to conferences and professional development sessions. Even when it meant I … Read the rest ... “The Art of Conversation”

The Newlywed Diary

In It’s Entirety – all 390 words

Intro by Greg, the Diary by Trenna

Introduction

Today I was looking for a different piece of Trenna history, when I stumbled across a lovely hard cover book I hadn’t seen for some time.

It was bought at Myer (department store) for $15 (which sounds to me like a lot of money, considering it was in 1989). It comprises 100 or so blank pages.

The very first page has Trenna’s writing on both … Read the rest ... “The Newlywed Diary”

The Kitchen Tapes No. 13

Recorded 7 May 2018

[ GM: Note before we start.  In these recordings of Trenna’s early years I can hear that she almost puts herself into a trance like state, as if she was channeling a very young, and a very different Trenna.  She gave this whole account speaking quite fast and with almost no breaks.]

[GM: In this recording, perhaps more than others Trenna has retold stories she has already covered (although there is also new material). Trenna and Read the rest ... “The Kitchen Tapes No. 13”

Weekday Routine 2016 and 2017

Intro by Greg, and then Trenna

Among the documents on Trenna’s iPad there are two called “Weekly Routine”. One is labelled “2016” and the other “2017”.

It is actually not quite as pernickety as it seems.

In this post I will reproduce both of them. In them Trenna goes into immense detail about times she intends doing things and what looks like a very strict routine.
